Description
Normothermic Regional Perfusionist play a crucial role in the maintenance and optimization of organ perfusion prior to transplantation procedure. The primary responsibility of the specialist will be to oversee the process of normothermic regional perfusion to thoracic organ, abdominal organ, or both, intended for transplantation to ensure the organ function is adequately assessed prior to transplantation.
Responsibilities
- Remote, on-call availability for organ procurement procedures. The specialist will travel to meet the surgical procurement team at the hospital where the supplies will be available.
- Perform normothermic regional perfusion procedures for organ retrieval. This involves the cannulation and perfusion for normothermic temperatures to maintain cellular function and viability.
- Maintain perfusion parameters such as oxygenation, pH, temperature, and flow rates throughout the perfusion process. Make necessary adjustments to optimize organ function and viability.
- Perform and analyze point of care testing equipment during the perfusion process including but not limited to anticoagulation, liver enzyme, and blood gas testing.
- Work closely with transplant surgeons, organ procurement organizers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate the timing and logistics of normothermic regional perfusion procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of perfusion parameters, organ assessments, and transplantation outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and institutional protocols for organ preservation and transplantation.
- Identify and address any issues or complications that may arise during the perfusion process. Implement corrective actions to mitigate risks and ensure the successful preservation of organs for transplantation.
Required
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in clinical perfusion.
- Prior experience working in a clinical setting related to organ transplantation, perfusion technology, extracorporeal therapies or critical care medicine.
- Proficiency in operating perfusion and other extracorporeal equipment to include monitoring systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Response to the hospital/procurement team in a timely manner.
- Certifications
- Certification as a Clinical Perfusionist (CCP)
This position includes remote, on-call duties to accommodate the timing of organ procurement and transplantation procedures.Based out of Jackson, Mississippi.
