During cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), perfusionists mainly control the perfusion pressure. Hypotension is multifactorial and often observed during CPB. According to the American Perfusion Standards and Guidelines, the perfusionist and the surgical care team shall define the acceptable ranges for blood pressure before CPB procedures. Therefore, the perfusion pressure is kept at a certain level according to the in-hopsital standard operating procedures. Nevertheless, the available evidence is limited, and optimal perfusion pressure is (yet) unknown.
