Position Title: Senior Perfusionist
Location: Murray, UT (Intermountain Medical Center)
Description:
Responsible for all clinical aspects of perfusion services. Operates the equipment necessary to maintain extra-corporeal circulation during situations where it is necessary to support or temporarily replace the patient's circulatory and/or respiratory function. The Perfusionist is responsible for drug administration under the guidelines of the Physician Preference Care and/or direct MD order. The Perfusionist also completes limited point of care lab testing. The Perfusionist-Sr is responsible for training and mentoring other Perfusionists.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for all clinical aspects of perfusion services including: Cardiopulmonary support, Hepatic bypass, Single limb perfusion, Rapid infusion systems, Centrifugal pump, LVAD, and RVAD.
- Monitors and documents the anticoagulation status of the patient and medicates per established protocols. Administers and records blood products per established protocol.
- Administers pharmacological agents via the extra-corporeal circuit per established protocols as outlined in the Physicians Preference Card.
- Responsible for operating red cell salvages devices.
- Provides perioperative blood product support.
- Cleans and maintains equipment.
- Documents all patient assessment, care delivery, and technical intervention data per policy. Maintains appropriate records in compliance with JCAHO, CLIA, AMSECT, and the American Board for Cardiopulmonary Perfusion recommendations.
- Spends most of the time on a combination of the following Senior Perfusionist job duties:
- Responsible for all clinical aspects of perfusion services for heart transplantation.
- Heart and Lung Assist Pump Implantation. This includes: Short-term cardiopulmonary support (CPS) for emergent Cath-Lab and bedside rescue, Long-term CPS (ECMO) for in-house post-cardiotomy heart failure and/or pulmonary distressed patients transferred from other institutions, RVAD/LVAD/VIVAD support for patients who fail to wean from CPB, are transported from other institutions following surgery, or require temporary support following VAD implantation.
- Responsible for all clinical aspects of perfusion services for liver transplantation.
- Responsible for clinical aspects of perfusions for Isolated Limb Perfusion (ILP). This includes: Designing and managing several different types of ILP systems to meet the needs of each individual patient, Hyperthermic chemotherapy, Peritoneal lavage, and Blood gas analysis.
- Provide CPS/VAD training for other Intermountain Healthcare facilities.
- Responsible for daily rounds and maintenance on CPS/VAD patients.
- Perfusion related research (e.g., CPS, VAD, Pharmacology testing).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of a formal academic training program in Cardiopulmonary Perfusion (or granted 'Grandfather' status by the American Board of Cardiopulmonary Perfusionists).
- Certification by the Board of Cardiopulmonary Perfusionists.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
- Three (3) years perfusion experience.
- Experience working independently.
- Experience managing patients being transported on mechanical circulatory support or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation from outside institutions by air or ground transport.
