Simulation is a critical tool for cardiovascular perfusionists, providing a safe and controlled environment to master new equipment and prepare for high-stakes scenarios. With the rapid advancement of perfusion technologies, simulations allow practitioners to gain hands-on experience with innovative devices before applying them in real surgical settings and reducing the risk of errors. Simulation-based training equips perfusionists with the skills to effectively respond to crisis events, such as equipment malfunctions or patient complications, by practicing decision-making and teamwork under realistic conditions using simulators like Califia. This not only enhances proficiency and confidence but also improves patient safety by minimizing the likelihood of adverse outcomes during critical cardiovascular procedures.

Course Objectives

The objective of this simulation is to familiarize Perfusionists with the Essenz Perfusion System, understand the knobology, safety devices and cockpit interface. Participants will engage in common CPB scenarios, and simulate one adverse event to analyze and understand the new Essenz Heart-lung machine respond mechanism. This training aims to enhance familiarity, operational proficiency, and crisis management capabilities with the Essenz Perfusion System in clinical settings.
