Position Title: Pediatric Perfusionist/Instructor
Location: Portland, OR
Description: Pediatric Perfusionist performs clinical perfusion for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital (DCH) to include those functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement, or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient. Perfusionist must be able to assemble, disassemble and operate the heart/lung machine within the safe scope of established clinical practice; provide total patient support during cardiopulmonary bypass.
Pediatric perfusionists also perform extensive point of care testing to include the TEG (Thromboelastograph), Hemochron Hemostasis Management System, Radiometer ABLFlex90, and the Hemochron Elite ACT device.
The Perfusionist lectures on perfusion techniques or topics; participates in teaching and is a clinical rotation site for SUNY(Syracuse Upstate New York) perfusion students. Perfusionists also participate and collaborate in research activities and publish in peer reviewed journals. Perfusionists are also responsible for product evaluation activities. The Perfusionist sets up and operates circuits to provide ECLS support in the OR, PICU, and Catheterization lab. Other activities include set-up and operation of Autotransfusion Devices and all available perfusion devices which may involve the use of x-rays or fluoroscopy as a diagnostic aid in the procedure.
The Perfusionist manages patient parameters within the accepted safe ranges of established clinical practice, supports organ transplants, laser procedures, new surgical procedures and perioperative VAD support. They perform patient charting and education of staff and students; maintains current knowledge in perfusion, shares on-call responsibilities and the routine staffing and operating room coverage. Shares the daily tasks and operation of the department functions such as stocking supplies and equipment maintenance. Other duties may be assigned. Call coverage is required.
Function/Duties of Position
Provide perfusion coverage for all pediatric open heart procedures, standby on all closed heart procedures, standby for cardiac cath lab, ECMO initiation and assists in ECMO program training and management
Autologous blood recovery/blood conservation for open heart procedures
Participate in collaborative research opportunities
Perform Perfusion laboratory services and analysis
Education of house officers, nurses, residents, perfusion students
Requirements: Required Qualifications
EDUCATION
BS/BA Degree or BS equivalent of an accredited school of Perfusion
REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES
Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)
BLS Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES
Cardiopulmonary Bypass,
Point of Care, Sterile Technique, Data management, VADs, IABP, Autotransfusion, Quality Management, Effective Communication
Preferred Qualifications
3-5 years’ experience in perfusion.
Pediatric and ECMO experience preferred.
FPP (Fellow in Pediatric Perfusion) preferred.
