Description
The Perfusionist is a uniquely and formally trained allied health professional, educated in the field of extracorporeal science, whose scope of practice expressly includes the utilization of extracorporeal devices. The Perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace a person's cardiopulmonary, circulatory, or respiratory function. The Perfusionist reports to the Director of CV Perfusion, and is responsible for the selection of appropriate equipment and techniques necessary for support, treatment, measurement, or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and/or circulatory system of a patient, including the safe monitoring, analysis, and treatment of physiologic conditions under an order and supervision of a physician. This position operates under very stressful situations, and is chartered with maintaining acute observational skills, persistent attention to detail and exercising excellent clinical judgment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree Cardiovascular Perfusion Science from an accredited college or university - Required
- Master's Degree Cardiovascular Perfusion Science - Preferred
- 1 year CCP - Preferred
- Current and valid Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) - Required or must be obtained within 1 year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
