Keynote Session: From Vision to Impact: My Journey Advancing Quality at Scale
Gyula Sziraczky, Founder and CEO of ARMUS Corporation, Retired
Gyula will present on his work as a partner in advancing collaborative learning within and outside of cardiac surgery through ARMUS, a company he founded and managed for over three decades. Gyula was a true pioneer in advancing clinical quality through collaborations in the United States, including in the States of Virginia, Michigan, Washington, and other locations.
Gyula, a Hungarian native, emigrated to the United States in 1979. Following his graduation in computer science from San Francisco State University, he held several software engineering positions at ASK Computer Systems in Silicon Valley.
In 1992, Gyula established ARMUS Corporation, which evolved into an innovative software company specializing in developing tools for professional medical education, clinical registry applications, and data analytics. Notably, after three decades of business operations without external funding, ARMUS was acquired by Health Catalyst in 2022.
Lunch with a Legend | Mark Kurusz, C.C.P. (Emeritus)
Join us for an inspiring session honoring Mark Kurusz, a perfusion pioneer. Mark has longstanding interests in artificial organ history, risk management, perfusion standards, and mechanical circulatory support. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Bloomfield College in 1971 and began his perfusion career at Penn State University’s Hershey Medical Center.
He went on to serve nearly three decades as Chief Perfusionist and faculty member in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he continues to contribute as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. His career also includes clinical work with Capital Area Perfusionists, Inc. and leadership at Windmill Cardiovascular Systems, Inc., where he has served as President and Secretary/Treasurer.
A prolific author and editor, Mark has contributed over 100 articles, numerous book chapters, and several books, and has served extensively on committees for AmSECT, AACP, ASAIO, ABCP, ELSO, P.R.E.F., AAMI, and ISO. His work has been recognized with multiple awards for academic and leadership excellence.
AmSECT Blood Drive

Credits
AmSECT will be applying for approval of Category I CEUs by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP). Credit is contingent upon attendance and completion of conference evaluations. Credits are dependent on faculty availability, as schedule is subject to change. Only live attendees (in-person or virtual) will receive credit; no credit is given for on-demand viewing.
